When Mom Was Borderline

Growing up with a mother who had Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) or a Narcissist, or was emotionally unavailable, can leave deep emotional wounds. You may have experienced intense mood swings, unpredictable anger, fear of abandonment, emotional invalidation, or parent-child role reversal that left you feeling confused, anxious, guilty, and unsure of your own worth.

These childhood experiences often shape how you relate to others, set boundaries, and manage your emotions as an adult. Many adult children carry lingering feelings of hyper-responsibility, fear of conflict, or difficulty trusting their own reality.

Healing is possible. In counseling, you can gently process the pain, understand the impact of your mother’s BPD on your development, release misplaced guilt, and build the secure sense of self you may have missed.

You are not alone, and you are not responsible for your mother’s emotions. You deserve freedom from the past and the chance to create healthier relationships—starting with yourself.

If you’re ready to heal from growing up with a borderline mother, we’re here to support you with compassion and care.
